If you want to change your view of a polar graph, you use the scale or range functions just as you would normally. Please note that the x and y coordinate ranges and the range for the variable theta function completely independently in normal Cartesian graphing, theta's value is irrelevant, and in polar graphing, theta controls the domain of the graph, but the x and y ranges still control the physical screen you see. (When you have a "double" equation with r^2 in it, though, note that the positive roots are drawn first and then the negative roots are drawn: theoretically they should be drawn simultaneously but this is not practically possible.) ![]() You should watch as your graph is drawn, because often the direction it is going is almost as important as the figure it draws. You can embed the r in a term like r^2 to graph functions that cannot be simplified by normal means and Graphmatica will evaluate both positive and negative roots automatically. The restrictions are still the same: you can have one and only one instance of the dependent variable r, although it can be located almost anywhere in the equation. The only difference in what you type, and the way Graphmatica detects a polar graph, is that you must use the variables t and r instead of x and y. 2 to graph functions that cannot be simplified by normal means and Graphmatica will evaluate both positive and negative roots automatically. Polar graphs can be typed in the equation combobox just like normal graphs. The only difference in what you type, and the way Graphmatica detects a polar graph, is that you must use the variables t and r instead of x and y. The domain for the graphing is 0 to 2pi (the first complete circle in the positive direction), but you can easily change these values using the Theta Range function in the Options menu. To make a graph using polar coordinates, we let theta be the independent variable and calculate a distance to plot out from the origin as we let the angle sweep around in the positive direction. To put a polar coordinate into Cartesian terms in order to graph it, we use the equations: x = r cos t and y = r sin t. There are 2pi radians in a complete circle, corresponding to 360 of the degrees you're familiar with. The direction is measured in radians as an angle starting from the positive side of the x-axis and turning around counter-clockwise (like measuring the angle the hand on a clock has traveled starting at the 3 o'clock position and going backwards). The t tells what direction to go in from the origin, and the r tells how far to go out in that direction to reach the point. However, they doesnt cancel each other, within Mathematica. Its main part coincides with the full square root of the denominator of g. The traditional Cartesian method relies on an x and a y coordinate to mark how far a point is from the axes in two perpendicular directions polar coordinates plot the location of a point by one coordinate represented by the Greek letter theta which is simplified to t in Graphmatica and another called r. I have complicated function gs1,s2,Ss,t1,t2,m with the numerator containing only the summands with the square root factor. The concept is pretty easy to grasp graphically, but if you have never used polar coordinates and want to understand them, you should probably read the section below. Polar coordinates are a fundamentally different approach to representing curves in two-dimensional space. ![]()

![]() One last note, do not stay in this cave for extended periods of time unless you have excellent insulation against the heat. One false move and it's insta-death for you and your inventory. You also do not want to be overweight down here either as there are some very risky jumps across lava flows. Make sure you bring about 3-4 water containers before descending. Araneomorphus, Pulmonoscorpius, and Onychonycteris populate this cave so be sure to have lots of ranged ammo. This cave has the Artifact of the Massive tucked away. Upon reaching land stick to the left wall and there should be a slightly hidden pathway that will take you straight to the artifact. Once through the first tunnel you will need to continue through another water tunnel. There should be a tunnel that will take you down for a long distance and eventually forces you back up. Jump into the water to the right of the column and swim down past the column. Heading down to the water you'll see a small pool to the left and a waterway to the front with a rock column in the water. There are also some dangerous jumps and holes that lead to instant death here to be wary of. Make sure to bring ranged weapons for people in the back and a pike for your lead person. Onychonycteris and Araneomorphus live in this cramped cave. Spelunkers must take a treacherous cliffside path and crouch to gain entrance. This cave has the Artifact of the Skylord in its depths. Onychonycteris can swoop in fast and get behind you but go down easily enough with well placed ranged shots. Araneomorphus will also spit webs at you which will slow your movement. Both Pulmonoscorpius and Araneomorphus will inject poison that will knock you out if they manage to land melee hits on you. Pulmonoscorpius (scorpions), Araneomorphus (spiders), and Onychonycteris (bats) all spawn here as well so be sure to bring plenty of ranged ammo with you. If you chose not to risk death too much just keep following the wall ledge and it will lead you the same way, eventually. You will easily see this as it looks like a bridge with a gap. Ungauged slate is generally used more in outdoor applications, such as stepping-stones. Slate, on the other hand, is cleaved along its natural graining. This classification of gauged or ungauged is generally unique to slate tiles, because tiles of other natural stone, such as granite or marble, are cut to size. ![]() Gauged tiles, while typically more expensive, will save you on labor costs because their backs have been ground down to a consistent flatness, which results in the tiles being pretty much uniform in size, with a thickness of about 1/16 of an inch. This can make installation more difficult, requiring techniques such as ‘back buttering,’ or building up adhesive on the back of the tile in order to make it lie flat. Ungauged slate tile flooring can be installed with either side of the tile facing up, and the thickness of the tile tends to vary between 1/8 of an inch and ½ an inch. When slate tiles are in their most natural state, known as ‘ungauged,’ they are not uniform in size, and feature uneven, rough surfaces on both the front and the back of the tile. While the color, quality, density, and permeability of slate can all be affected by the location it was quarried from, the main classifications for slate tiles are based on manufacturing. Slate is probably the most common natural stone in general use. Slate tiles are used not only for flooring, but also wall tiling, back splashes, stepping stones, roofing, and a variety of other uses. Slate is quarried around the world as well as domestically, but is mainly manufactured in Asia. Slate is quarried in large slabs, which are then cleaved, parallel to the foliation, into tiles of generally uniform size. It is often black, dark green, and gray, but can also include instances of red, purple, gold, and blue. ![]() Slate is a durable, finely foliated, and brittle stone, which comes in a wide range of colors, depending on the location and minerals of the slate in question. These are all then compressed over long periods of time by heat and pressure until they bond into a homogenous, finely grained stone, which we know as slate. These minerals and sediments include quartz, mica, muscovite, calcite, and often times biotite, chlorite, hematite, and pyrite, with occasional instances of apatite, graphite, kaolinite (the main mineral in ceramic clay), magnetite, zircon, and feldspar. Slate is a metamorphic rock, which (if you’ll recall your elementary school geology) simply means that it is formed over long periods of time out of other existing rock types. The intent is to show how Adobe Connect, and technologies like it–or of it, as in components of it–can open paths to different kinds of seminar experiences, moving us out of the 19th century graduate student tradition and into one more fitting of 21st century new media scholarship. As such, it will introduce our approaches to utilizing Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro (referred to hereafter as Adobe Connect2) as part of our seminar practices. This paper, then, is an attempt to relate my (and a few classmates’) experiences using new media as an integrated component to augment (and improve) our learning experiences in graduate seminars. As Nathan Shedroff (2001) has told us, “The form of the experience is what gives it meaning since this is what people experience directly” (p. But our learning experiences are crucial, and if we seek to produce new media scholars then perhaps it is time to rethink the old media learning experience offered (and expected) of graduate students in graduate seminars. What about those that help, or could help, facilitate and/or improve learning? Rather than examine how technologies can impact or change our learning experiences (i.e., our seminar experiences), most conversations and research efforts, for faculty and graduate students alike, remain primarily focused on what we can make with new media. Even with the plethora of technologies available, we still tend to be drawn in by those for productive purposes. ![]() While this is not without value, I find myself asking, why do we limit new media to this productive paradigm? Scholarship on new media and new emerging technologies tends to focus on production, on productive possibilities, predominantly viewing new media through the lens of productive arts. ![]() ![]() ![]() Just give her something that does the job, and she's happy. They refrain from using the word cure because cancer can recur.īut that, of course, is exactly what Suzy wanted to hear, and who could blame her? Like many women, and for that matter men, too, Suzy was of the frame of mind that the doctor was always right. Even the most respected cancer experts in the country (which he was certainly not) do not talk about recovery in terms of surviving cancer or remission. My sister was terrified, naturally, but adamant against having a mastectomy. So when you are told you’ve got a life-threatening disease, and the treatment sounds more heinous than the thought of a little lump in the breast, it is understandable that a woman uneducated about cancer might opt for no treatment at all. There is rarely any pain associated with breast cancer in its early stages. The most difficult concept to grasp about cancer, I think, is the fact that when it is first detected the patient usually feels just fine. None of us knew enough to inquire about seeking information from a major cancer center or from a group of physicians associated with one in Peoria.
